Positive pressure ventilators (PPV) serve to make buildings and places of operation free of smoke, heat and toxic gases or to maintain the absence of smoke in parts of buildings that are not yet contaminated. Ventilation equipment for fire brigades according to this standard has its own drive by a combustion engine or by an electric motor or by a water turbine drive or by other types of drive (e. g. pneumatic); the latter are not dealt with in this standard. The above-mentioned ventilation equipment is mobile (portable) and is usually brought to the site of operation as part of the load of a fire-fighting vehicle. The main purpose of this standard is to facilitate the procurement of ventilation equipment for municipal firefighting needs by compiling the minimum necessary requirements. Furthermore, a data sheet for a ventilation device is included in order to establish comparability.
