This document provides recommendations for technical texts that are to be translated into other languages by means of human and/or machine translation. In addition to the requirements for the technical texts themselves, this document also deals with the requirements for the interface between production and translation of technical texts. This document is intended for authors and editors of German technical texts, which are to be translated. Many criteria are also applicable to authors of technical texts in other languages. This document serves both translators and translation service providers to evaluate the suitability of technical texts for translation. This document can also be used by manufacturers of language tools to develop automated procedures for language control and testing. This document does not provide recommendations for the specific requirements of writing fiction, journalism, advertising, and other non-technical language.
